4 Must-Do Activities In Manchester With Kids & Teens

Manchester, or as most people know it, a miniature London, has been getting better and better with new and exciting things popping up, leaving you with a bunch of fun activities to do easily every weekend. Whether you are a local and figuring out what's new to do, or you are gracing us with your presence, here are some things you can do to entertain yourself during your trip to the city.

Whether you are a drinker, games enthusiast, foodie or an easygoing individual, you will find at least 1 of these 10 activities right up your alley.

Make Your Own Signet Ring

This is a very new activity in Manchester and is all hosted by Sken Studios in South Manchester and is a very good birthday present idea for your creative teen. This activity is essentially a workshop day where you get to design and create from scratch your own ring that you can cherish forever. It’s all made from eco sterling silver, so it’s great to know you are doing it sustainably, but also you are learning something new, which is really impressive considering you made this specific ring from nothing.

I think it’s a very unique activity; while it is priced at £150, you aren’t just walking away with a personalised ring, but you are walking away with memories, lessons and quite possibly the knowledge to go and do it or create something from scratch yourself.

This is something they can keep and cherish for the rest of their lives. Great idea for a 16th or even 18th birthday gift.

National Football Museum

Even if you aren’t particularly a passionate football enthusiast, it’s good to do things that your kids would enjoy. Especially as this isn’t a whole day activity and is a great opportunity to get them out of the house, join in with interactive displays and engage with things they will be stimulated by, followed by a delicious humble meal and a walk around the city.

Kids can even test their shooting skills here, life replica trophies and learn a few fun facts, which is a tiring bit of fun they will very much enjoy. Perfect day activity during the school breaks.

Heaton Park

If you haven’t been to Heaton Park yet, then you are truly missing out. Maybe you are new to the city and just secured your British citizenship; you are looking for green spaces in the area for walks, games and activities. Heaton Park is a great spot with loads of family-friendly areas and just a great spot for a picnic, walk and people-watching. I would strongly recommend this spot, and with so many green spaces, you can get away from the big crowds and relax in a quiet spot.

They host many activities here for families, such as the bonfire, circus, Christmas events, and so much more.

Chillfactor, Trafford Centre & More

Whether it’s skiing lessons, rock climbing or something to eat, the Chill Factor is a perfect spot for active kids who love to get down and dirty with sports. Introducing your little ones to these activities is are great confidence booster but also could spark some lifelong interests and prepare them for family ski trips in the year.

Not to mention, you are just across the road from the iconic Trafford Centre, which is another great spot for kids with the activity play area and toy shops and right next to it, you also have Sea Life and Legoland! You are truly spoilt for choice in this one area.

How To Get Around Manchester With Kids

The three main train stations in Manchester are Oxford Road, Victoria Road, and Piccadilly. Since Manchester Victoria was the closest train station to our CitySuites lodging, we purchased our tickets there.

Since Manchester is a very small city, walking is usually the best option, and it takes no more than 25 minutes to walk from one end to the other. Only on the route to and from the Manchester Museum, which is located near the university, did we take public transport.

In addition to the quick Metrolink network (tap on and off aboard), there is a decent selection of buses (you can pay for them with cash or contactless on board). Visit the Transport for Greater Manchester website to learn more about the fares for young people.
